Solar Eclipse 2024
A total solar eclipse will pass through southern, central and northeastern North America on April 8, 2024. Here in Toronto, a partial (99%) eclipse will be experienced.
Eclipses occur about every 6 months somewhere in the world, but it is very rare to have a total solar eclipse viewable near the Toronto region. The last total eclipse to grace the skies of Southern Ontario was August 21, 2017, and was viewed as a 70% partial in Toronto.
This is a truely once-in-a-lifetime event, with the next total solar eclipse expected to be in Toronto in 2144. In celebration, SciXchange has multiple opportunities for schools and community members to engage and learn about this astronomical event.

Eclipse 2024 Workshops
TMU has an exciting lineup of virtual events to engage youth in the upcoming solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. Classes are welcome to register for multiple events, including:
- Virtual hands-on activities that have simple materials
- Astronomer Talks events where students can meet a space scientist
All registrants will get access to our video series, Under One Moon, featuring astronomers and astrophysicists from around the world. They'll share their expertise as well as their experience with cultural astronomy - the current and historical relationship that different cultures have to the Moon and the cosmos.
