Lauren Sciacchitano

Volunteer contribution: Computer Literacy & Elementary programs

We asked Lauren what her favourite volunteering memory is. She said:

"My favourite memory is when I volunteered at a small science fair we did at a YWCA location. The crowd was mostly kids under 10 and that age group is always so enthusiastic about science experiments and love answering questions, but what made this instance particularly memorable was a little girl that was extremely interested in the activity. She stayed at my table longer than most of the other kids and her focus and curiosity was so inspiring. She also reminded me how important it was to be able to adapt to your audience. We were playing with different concentrations of soap solutions and we always ask "how did you decide which solution had the highest concentration?" and the answer we anticipate is 'I was able to blow the most bubbles with solution A.' However, she was a more tactile person and told me 'Solution A is the most sticky' and I have included that observation whenever I facilitate that experiment and always remember that fiercely curious little girl."
