Research
As the world’s first 100% digitally-enabled building, the Hub integrates all building systems and functions including HVAC lighting, building envelope, security, IT, and communications — so that together, they can be enhanced. As each system works in tandem, data is collected and fed into a digital twin, which means it can be accessed both digitally for researchers outside of the building, and in person. Researchers will engage in three areas of investigation - Smarter Cities, Better Buildings for People, and Better Buildings for the Planet.
Smart Building Integration into the Smart City
SCITHub will assist researchers to advance smart building exploration through standardization and digitization. Research outcomes are expected to help Ontarians have sustainable living conditions.
Better Buildings for People
Research conducted in the SCITHub will focus on Smart Building research that will improve the health, safety and lifestyles of Ontarians.
Supporting Better Buildings for the Planet
SCITHub research will help support net-zero carbon goals globally by developing algorithms and new technologies to reduce energy consumption and associated GHG emissions.
