Discovery & Innovation
The Faculty of Science conducts high-quality research driving innovative and impactful solutions for today’s complex problems. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, our research addresses real-world challenges in computer science, physics, mathematics, biology and chemistry. From geometric computing to environmental change, discover the faculty research highlights that showcase the dedication and expertise that contributes to our growing reputation as a leader in scientific research.
Promoting industrial innovation using geometric computing
“We are exploring how we can use these theories to solve real-world problems and make a meaningful difference in the industrial sector.”
Probing the physics behind biological systems
“I really want to understand how living things use physical principles to stay alive.”
Applying chemistry’s findings to real-world problems
“The theme of my research is to make new materials that are both functional and sustainable for people and the environment.”
Studying the frontiers of mathematics on the world stage
“In mathematics, as long as we have our brains and our notepads, we’re good.”
How neurons talk to their neighbours
“We want to learn how neurons talk to each other.”
Rising Stars
As part of the Faculty of Science’s commitment to advancing science education, we welcomed two pedagogy professors in 2022: Carina Rebello, Department of Physics and Krystal Nunes, Department of Chemistry & Biology.
This year, we also introduced a new position, Indigenous Education Advisor to the Dean. Brooke Filsinger joins us to advance initiatives and integrate Indigenous perspectives into STEM education and research, which play an essential role in building a more equitable and diverse scientific community at TMU.
