Celebrating ten years as the Faculty of Science

In 2012, the Faculty of Science gained independence from the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Science with the vision of further developing the unique needs and strengths of the departments of Chemistry & Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics at TMU.

2022 marked our 10th anniversary, celebrating a Decade of Discovery (opens in new window) since the founding of the Faculty of Science. Festivities throughout the year brought our community together to reflect on the countless discoveries and achievements over the last decade that have made us who we are today. From community engagement to groundbreaking research and outstanding students and faculty, the Faculty of Science has paved a path to the forefront of scientific innovation.

Two thousand twelve the faculty of science becomes an independent faculty

Over the past decade, the Faculty of Science has celebrated many important milestones. Highlights include:

2012: The Faculty of Science becomes an independent faculty at TMU
2013: Launch of Canada’s first undergraduate financial mathematics program (opens in new window) and the GTA’s first CAMPEP-accredited biomedical physics program
2015: Collaborative research space opens at St. Michael’s Hospital with iBEST (external link, opens in new window)
2016: 20,000 ft² research space opens at MaRS Discovery District (opens in new window) and the launch of the Science Discovery Zone
2017: Launch of SciXchange, promoting outreach within the scientific community
2022: Release of faculty strategic research plan to guide SRC (Scholarly, Research and Creative) activity for 2022 to 2027
