Scholarships and Awards

The university offers many different awards and scholarships to acknowledge students’ achievements, facilitate their education and promote their success. As a student in the School of Urban and Regional Planning, you may qualify for some of these awards.

How Do I Apply for Awards?

Applying is easy! Visit the AwardSpring portal (external link, opens in new window)  to explore opportunities, check eligibility criteria, and submit your applications. Be sure to check deadlines and gather all necessary documents to make the process seamless.

Current students will receive an email with information on the School of Urban and Regional Planning award application process when it becomes available.

  

Undergraduate Awards

Awarded to an individual (or to a study group of full time undergraduate students) enrolled in the third or fourth year of study in the School of Urban and Regional Planning who have demonstrated a commitment to helping immigrant, ethnic and Aboriginal communities.

Awarded to an individual enrolled in the third or fourth year of study in the School of Urban and Regional Planning who has demonstrated outstanding community involvement within and outside of the university.

For a third-year student who demonstrates outstanding commitment to Urban and Regional Planning, including land development and private sector planning.

Awarded to the student that shows the most improved cumulative grade point average between their first and second year.

Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student completing the second year of the Urban and Regional Planning Program, who has shown success in the program despite having to deal with issues such as, health, or family problems, financial circumstances, or learning disabilities.

For exceptional work in land use planning or design at the site scale.

This scholarship will be presented to one graduating student in the School of Urban and Regional Planning who demonstrates the greatest improvement of cumulative grade point average from the end of the first year of the program to the completion of studies in the 4th year.

Noah D'Alleva Memorial Award in Urban Planning for a first generation student in the first year of their program from an equity seeking group and demonstrates financial need.

This award has been established to recognize a third or fourth year student for excellence in the application of research methods or planning analysis to urban and regional planning, in combination with a dedication to community service.

To recognize the academic, professional and community building achievements of one undergraduate student enrolled in their final year of study in the School of Urban and Regional Planning.

An award to support equity-deserving students, specifically those who identify as Black or Indigenous, who are enrolled at the School of Urban and Regional Planning.

An award to support equity-deserving students, specifically those who identify as Black or Indigenous, who are enrolled at the School of Urban and Regional Planning.

Faculty Nominated Undergraduate Awards

Awarded to the two students who prepare the best course project assignment, (i.e. have the best work, i.e. the highest grade for the project) in PLE-735: Private Development Seminar.

Strong leadership excellence and practice in community development. Demonstrates good academic standing.

To recognize a team of undergraduate students enrolled in the School of Urban and Regional Planning for excellence in studio work. The awarded team should demonstrate such qualities as creativity, integrity, collaboration, outstanding vision, innovation, and a commitment to city-building through client-based project work and their engagement with agencies and firms.

Arcadis Urban and Regional Planning Award (formally IBI Group) is intended to provide financial support to full-time undergraduate students in Urban and Regional Planning.

Automatic Awards (no application required)

Students in the School of Urban and Regional Planning self-identifying as Black and demonstrating financial need

To recognize the academic and professional achievement of a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in the School of Urban and Regional Planning who has demonstrated integrity, outstanding vision and commitment to community planning, as exemplified through their individual work and engagement with client-based agencies and firms.

External Awards

CIP Student Award for Academic Excellence awarded for Academic Excellence to one graduate, one undergraduate, and one PLAD/PLAB student who are student members of CIP.

The OPPI provides student members with scholarship opportunities that award their academic excellence and contributions to their community.

Applications are open annually from March 1 to May 1 (external link) .

The Canadian Institute of Planners offers scholarship and bursary opportunities for student members demonstrating excellence, contribution to the planning profession, and community service.

Bursaries applications open in the Fall, and scholarship applications in the Winter. (external link) 

Toronto CREW offers scholarships for female students enrolled in a program specializing in real estate and who intend to purse a career in commercial real estate.

Applications are open annually, generally in the winter. (external link) 

 

The Transportation Association of Canada offers scholarships for students in transportation related disciplines. 

Applications are open annually from December 1 to February 28. (external link) 

For the past 38 years, the Black Business and Professional Association has been advancing Black business communities, youths and professionals, to create equity and opportunity for all, so no one gets left behind. Through various programs, the BBPA continues to fulfill that promise.
