Dr. Herbert Brill

Undergraduate Medical Education Phase II/Clerkship Lead

Dr. Herbert Brill holds a clinical appointment as Associate Professor at both the University of Toronto and McMaster University. Dr. Brill delivers care in both General Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology at William Osler Health System (Osler), and Pediatric Hepatology and Advanced Endoscopy at McMaster Children’s Hospital. He is currently Chair of the Research Ethics Board at Osler and also held the role of Chief of Pediatrics. In Hamilton, he completed a term on the executive team of the Regional Medical Associates, including a term as President. Provincially, he has served on committees to create the Pediatric Inpatient Levels of Care and revise the Neonatal Levels of Care documents.

Dr. Brill has been involved at all levels of medical education during his career. He has been a Divisional Educational Coordinator and was Program Director of the Pediatric Gastroenterology Residency Program at McMaster, obtaining initial Royal College approval for the new program and subsequently full accreditation. He co-chaired the Scholars Course at Canadian Digestive Diseases Week. He created and subsequently expanded the Financial Literacy Curriculum at McMaster's School of Medicine. He has mentored students, residents, and fellows in both career planning and personal finance.

Dr. Brill completed his Doctor of Medicine at Western University after obtaining a BSc at the University of Toronto. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at Queen’s University. He then completed his fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology at the Montreal Children’s Hospital while pursuing his Masters in Business Administration at McGill University. He holds a Fellowship in Pediatrics and Gastroenterology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and was designated a Fellow of the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology for his teaching leadership.
