Steven Stern

Award winning director Steven Hilliard Stern, (b. 1937 - d. 2018) filmed over 70 motion pictures all around the world, and gave many new faces their first leading roles. With a keen eye for talent and the willingness to go to bat for them, Stern helped many actors get their first opportunity to prove themselves. He gave their first leading roles to Jaclyn Smith, Tom Hanks, Timothy Hutton, Kim Basinger and Keanu Reeves.

He also developed many films with such stars as Michael Douglas, Art Carney, Bill Cosby, Kirk Douglas, Christopher Plummer, Helen Shaver, Tony Curtis and Christopher Reeve to name a few. In the mid ’70’s, Stern came back to Toronto from Hollywood to write, direct, and produce in Canada, and helped create the Toronto film industry.
