Farrokh Janabi-Sharifi, PhD, PEng

Biography: Farrokh Janabi-Sharifi (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.Sc. degree in mechanical engineering from METU, Turkey, the M.A.Sc. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Toronto, Canada, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Waterloo, Canada, in 1995. From 1995 to 1997, he was an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow and an Instructor with the Center for Intelligent Machines and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, McGill University. In 1997, he joined the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Toronto Metropolitan University, Toronto, Canada, where he is currently a Professor of mechanical and industrial engineering and the Director of the Robotics, Mechatronics, and Automation Laboratory (RMAL). He has been a Visiting Professor with KAIST, Daejeon, South Korea; IRISA-INRIA, Rennes, France; and TUM, Munich, Germany. He is a fellow of the Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Engineering Institute of Canada, and the Canadian Academy of Engineering. He has also been an organizer and a co-organizer of several international conferences on optomechatronic systems control. He also has served as a Technical Editor for IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics and an Associate Editor for several journals, including the International Journal of Optomechatronics and Journal of Robotics.
