Alim Esmail

VP, Merchandising Operations, Walmart

Alim joined Walmart in April 2021 and is responsible for Merchandising Operations which plays a critical role in ensuring Walmart Canada has the right tools, processes, and ways of working to effectively execute Walmart’s Merchandising strategy, both now, and into the future.  Prior to joining Walmart Canada, Alim held the role of Senior Vice President, Merchandising Planning at Hudson’s Bay Company, responsible for the end-to-end planning function, including forecasting, inventory management, markdowns, and profit optimization.  Throughout his career, Alim has held progressive roles leading merchandising, category management, financial planning, space & assortment optimization, promotions as well as he has led significant business transformation initiatives.  Alim brings an extensive retail background across multiple Canadian and North American retailers including Indigo Books & Music, Shoppers Drug Mart, The Home Depot, Best Buy & Staples.  Alim was also instrumental in establishing a diversity and inclusion framework and council at Hudson’s Bay which he is deeply passionate about.  Alim lives in Toronto with his wife Salma, his avid soccer and scooter enthusiast Liam, and his incredibly talented acro and ballet dancer Summer, along with their dog Saydee.
