Knowledge Mobilization
Mobilizing communication in order to share knowledge with communities outside of our campus.
Translating research into output and outcomes – such as published papers in peer-reviewed journals, conferences and public presentations – is a vital part of a researcher’s process. Ryerson scholars mobilize these forms of communication in order to share knowledge with communities outside of our campus. This dissemination serves to broaden the reach of the research, thereby increasing its impact.
Mark Campbell (Media) captured the growth of Canada’s hip hop culture in “Everything remains raw: Photographing Toronto’s hip hop culture from analogue to digital.” The exhibit of archival photographs, memorabilia and music appeared at the McMichael Gallery, creating a public conversation about Black art forms and the importance of Canada’s cultural institutions reflecting contemporary, globalized society. A book by the same title was published to accompany the exhibition.
Pawel Pralat (Mathematics) co-organized the 14th Workshop on Algorithms and Models for the Web Graph at Toronto’s Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences. International experts, academics and industry/private sector representatives met at the two-day panel sessions to discuss emerging trends in information retrieval and data mining – in particular, the development of high-performance algorithms and applications – and the potential large-scale research synergies that can arise.
