What’s one thing you’re currently working on that you’re extremely proud of?
Throughout my 4 years at TMU, I have been part of The Organization of Latin American Students. The group itself is a place for both Latin and non-Latin students to embrace the culture whilst forming relationships. I can proudly say that I have had the opportunity to assist with the growth of the club and watch it flourish throughout the years. We have made headway in helping our members both academically and individually which, we as a team, take great pride in. Although I play an important role within the organization, it is the people within it that truly make it special.
What advice would you give to current psychology students at TMU?
When thinking about your future career you have to BE CURIOUS!! The more questions you ask and the more you focus on answering those questions the more information you will gain. This is extremely important because more information helps you determine the options you have. Without a broad range of information, you thus narrow your options and ultimately yourself. So I would say to learn as much as you can about the various avenues you can take; this way, your decision making process will be easier and not limited.
What resource at TMU do you think that psychology students should take advantage of?
Undoubtedly, there are plenty of valuable academic resources available for students. Whether it's talking to an academic advisor to weigh out your career options or using the career and co-op center for reviewing essays, these services are all great but do not forget your NETWORK. Do yourself a favor and join a student group or organization, like the PSA, which has people who are in the same field as you. Whatever you plan on pursuing later in life, you want to be around the same types of people. This is extremely helpful as you can ask for advice or see what others are doing in order to motivate yourself.
What are your future plans?
Currently I am in the process of applying to graduate school for either counseling or clinical psychology. If possible I would take this schooling somewhere in Europe, most likely the Netherlands, however, I may work for a year before continuing my education. And by work I mean work a little and travel a lot more ;)
