Jennifer Gould

BA Student, Psychology

I have been a member and volunteer with the RSU since my first year at Ryerson. In particular, I am interested in the RSU campaigns run by the Centre for Women and Trans People, The Good Food Centre, and RyeACCESS. I have also been a member of the Psychological Students’ Association since my first year, and in my current year I have started volunteering with them.  As well, I recently became a member of Ryerson Oxfam, a newly formed group on campus that aims to increase awareness of global poverty and women’s rights.

I was encouraged to become involved by the fellow students, and orientation crew I met while in residence during my first year at Ryerson. After hearing about numerous positive experiences that students have had through campus involvement, and the opportunities this involvement gave them to form new friendships and professional networks, I wanted to do the same. As well, the overwhelming energy and camaraderie present at Ryerson during campus-wide activities is contagious, and I found myself inspired to become a part of this environment.

I was driven to attend Ryerson because of the various faculty members within the Psychology department who specialize in Clinical and Forensic Psychology. The opportunity to possibly conduct research with faculty members such as Dr. Alasdair Goodwill, Dr. David Day, Dr. Tara Burke, and Dr. Martin Antony while in my upper years at Ryerson is very motivating for me, and was a huge factor in my decision to attend Ryerson. Additionally, I grew up in a small town, and so I was drawn to the idea attending university at a campus in the heart of Toronto.
