Graham Berlin he/him

MA Student, Clinical Psychology

Graham works with Dr. Trevor Hart in the HIV Prevention Lab. Graham’s current research examines the sexualized use of crystal methamphetamine among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBM) – often referred to as party and play or chemsex – with a focus on identifying psychosocial factors associated crystal methamphetamine use. His research integrates Minority Stress Theory, Cognitive Escape Theory, and the Loneliness and Sexual Risk Model with structural equation modeling to identify direct and indirect pathways to GBM’s sexualized methamphetamine use. Graham hopes that this research will inform crystal methamphetamine related prevention, intervention and harm reduction efforts that take into account the broad array of structural, social, and psychology factors that affect GBM across the lifespan.

"One of the most fulfilling aspects of being a Ryerson graduate student has been the various opportunities for community collaboration and partnership. Through the Arts’ Public Scholars Program I collaborated with the Jack Layton Chair (Dr. Ken Moffatt), interviewed Dr. Randy Jackson in the Layton Shorts Series, and attended the Jack Layton Leadership School – where I had the privilege to learn from community leaders and activists. I have also had numerous opportunities for engagement within the psychology department working with fellow members of the Graduate Student Anti-Racism Initiative and mentoring/collaborating with HIV Prevention Lab research volunteers. As I move into my PhD, I am excited to continue learning from and collaborating with faculty, staff, students, and community members."
