Michael Thorn is an interdisciplinary lecturer and researcher with a PhD in Communication and Culture from York University and Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). His research addresses the communicative governmentality of film and television narratives, online and broadcast news, and other forms of visual popular culture in debates surrounding controversial issues that sit at the heart of politics, religion. sexuality, and culture.
His current research project is focused on discursive links between religion, sexuality, and representations of mental illness and psychiatric power in popular horror films. He teaches courses on film and media studies, popular culture, communication strategies, and gender and sexuality in a number of different departments at TMU.
