Film Screening: Mina Shum’s The Ninth Floor

February 09, 2023
5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
POD 250, Commons Conference Room

This Black History Month, learn incredible stories of Black resistance that transformed Canada, and the world. Join us on February 9, for a private screening of Mina Shum’s The Ninth Floor (external link) .

This film recounts the true story of a group of Black Caribbean students at Sir George Williams University (which merged with Loyola College to form what is now named Concordia University) in the late 1960s. The students raised claims of anti-Black racism by a white professor. When their claims were not taken seriously, Black students and allies mobilized in an act of resistance that would transcend generations.

On Canada Project

The On Canada Project (formerly the ON COVID-19 Project) was initially a passion project founded in June of 2020 by Samanta Krishnapillai to fill the gap in official communications about the COVID-19 pandemic that lacked compassion and did not speak to young Canadians, marginalized folks, and those with less privilege.
The Project harnesses the combined potential of young people, volunteerism, and social media to broadly disseminate credible information that is critical, conversational, and compassionate.
