Biography

Dr. Gnamo holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Addis Ababa, as well as a Master of Arts, a Diplomes D'Etudes Approfondies (DEA) and a Ph.D., all from the University of Paris I, Pantheon-Sorbonne.

He has lectured extensively in the field of international development and studies as well as global governance and African Studies in various higher learning institutions including York University (Canada), the University of Toronto, and Ryerson University. The major offerings he has directed/taught include: Issues and Problems in Third World Politics The Globalization of World Politics Culture and Identity in World Politics The Third World in International Politics The Twentieth Century: A Global Perspective Colonialism and Decolonization The Uneasy Peace: The Cold War and International Relations, 1945-1990; Modern Africa Africa: The Challenges of Change and Development, etc.

Currently, Dr. Gnamo's research interests focus upon Third World politics and society, including: Centre-periphery relations, state failure, religious revivalism, identity politics, civil wars, conflict management and resolution, forced displacement, development and democratization. His current project is on "Identity Politics and Ethnonationalism in the Horn of Africa," which is financed by a SSHRC standard grant.
