Politics Students visit Washington DC

Dr. Robert Speel (external link, opens in new window) (Chair of Political Science at Penn State - Behrend, and Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Politics and Public Administration) took 13 Politics and Governance students to Washington DC for the week of March 4 thru 12, as a major component of the course CPOG490: Politics and Government in Washington DC (Penn State students take the course as PL SC 177 (external link, opens in new window) .
Students complete an online portion of the course before leaving for Washington, and write two papers after their return. While in Washington, students toured many institutional and political landmarks, such as the US Capitol, the Library of Congress, the US Supreme Court, Arlington National Cemetery, Ford's Theatre, the National Archives, the Pentagon, the US State Department, the US Department of Labor and more. They also had the opportunity to visit the Canadian Embassy, the Organization of American States, and to meet with members of Congress.
Financial support for students undertaking the trip was provided by the Ryerson Arts Society (RAS), the Faculty of Arts, and the Department of Politics and Public Administration. The course offering was facilitated by the G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education (opens in new window) .
