Stephan Furlin
Stephan Furlin is a PhD in Policy Studies student at Toronto Metropolitan University in the Public Policy and Administration stream. He holds a Master of Health Science in Bioethics from the University of Toronto, a Master of Arts in Philosophy from Ryerson University, and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Political Science from McGill University. From 2021-2022 Stephan completed a research practicum at SickKids Hospital pertaining to clinical bioethics and artificial intelligence/machine learning technology in the medical setting. Additionally, Stephan was a student representative for the Canadian Bioethics Society from 2020-2022. Stephan’s research interests pertain to interdisciplinary topics in Canadian health policy and policy/regulatory issues pertaining to artificial intelligence/machine learning technology. Stephan’s past research focused on the ethics and regulation of artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithm technology in autonomous vehicles from a public policy perspective. Stephan’s current research involves an examination of clinical procedures, legal regulations, and health policy in regards to Ontario Consent and Capacity Board cases.
