Areas of ExpertiseJoel Richmond has recently completed his Ph.D. at the Department for the Study of Religion, University of Toronto. His primary research and dissertation are on the thought of al-Ghazālī (d. 1111), focusing on the role of self-control and its relationship to virtue as found in his ethical writings. Captivated by Islamic Philosophy, Exegesis, and Sufism, since he was an undergrad and throughout his M.A., he hopes to continue researching classical Islamic thought well into the future.
