Jessica Fu’s research-based art practice experiments with formless material and its metaphors to ask the philosophical question “What is reality” through site-specific art. She draws with unusual materials, such as light and shadow, projection mapping and audiovisual installation, to challenge the perceptions of the multi-contextual realities of physical space. Jessica has exhibited, researched and participated in various artist-in-residences for her ongoing site-specific projects internationally since 2015. The recent projects include “Data Collecting (Universe)” at the historical heritage of Oi! Street Art Space in Hong Kong (2022); Media Wall Installation “Traveling” at the Centre for Contemporary Creation of Andalucia (C3A), Spain (2021) and Site-specific sound installation “Whispering” for the local shrine at Nakanojo Biennale, Japan (2017).
For her research interests, Jessica questions how immersive experience is used as an artistic tool in the post-internet age. Currently, she has been researching and experimenting with large-scale venue immersive environments with audiovisual works such as the fully immersive 360˚ Dome Theater. Her work is an alternative space that mirrors the inner world. Jessica Fu received her Bachelor of Fine Art (First Class Honours) from the School of Art at the University of Manitoba and her Master of Fine Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
