Biography

Susie Burpee, is a performer, choreographer, and teacher whose work traverses both dance and theatre. She was a company member of Toronto’s Dancemakers, under the artistic direction of Serge Bennathan, and she received Dora Mavor Moore Awards for her choreography and performance, in collaboration with artists Linnea Swan and Dan Wild. She has most recently performed the work of choreographic innovators Alyssa Martin, Hanna Kiel, and Tedd Robinson. Susie studied Bouffon and Character with Philippe Gaulier at his school in Paris, and completed a Master’s degree in Drama, Theatre, and Performance Studies from the University of Toronto in 2020. She has taught at post-secondary training programs across Canada, and is thrilled to be working with the artists at Toronto Metropolitan University this fall 2024. An extension of her artistic work, Susie is Executive Director of Balancing Act, a national initiative to support parents and caregiving in the arts in Canada. She is very grateful to be able to work and raise her two daughters in Tkaronto/Toronto, and she hopes that through both Balancing Act and her artistic work, she can help facilitate the conditions for artists to thrive.
