Originally from Vancouver, Alia has been designing across Canada and in the UK for the past fifteen years.
Credits include: Lighting Design for Alternative Routes (NDCWales); the premiere of Stiles & Drewe’s Anything Can Happen, Falstaff (Richard Burton Co); PROUD, People Like Us (Firehall Arts Centre); Supernatural Noir (Fugue Theatre); Set/lighting design for Cabaret (Pipedream); Set/Lighting/Projection design for Secret Service (Fugue Theatre); Assistant Lighting Design for multiple productions with the Stratford Festival including Spamalot, A Wrinkle in Time, Chicago, and The Rocky Horror Show; and for Missing (Pacific Opera Victoria); Associate Lighting/Projection designer for The Cave (JMar Electric), among others. Alia has an MA in Lighting Design from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama which focused on the role of integral lighting design in the development of productions and how lighting designers can work more closely with artistic teams as co-collaborators. She also has a BFA in Theatre Production and Design from UBC, and a Diploma in Technical Theatre from Capilano University.
