Description: These nine modules, each with a case study approach, on data-driven business decision-making strategies in merchandising, marketing and advertising, real estate and facilities management, supply chain, store operations, human resources and finance are intended to develop student skills in data analysis and spreadsheet use to help them develop skills in solving business problems.

The modules are designed to reflect and interpret a constructive pedagogy. By creating these modules in an online format, we wish to encourage students' self-directed learning, collaborative learning and self-assessment. When these modules are combined with in-class instruction, optimum learning outcomes may be achieved.

Dr. Hong Yu, BEng, MEng, PhD
Associate Dean, Graduate Programs and Associate Professor, Retail Management 

Dr. Hong Yu is an Associate Professor and Director of the Ted Rogers School of Retail Management. Prior to joining Ryerson in 2004, she was on faculty at Oklahoma State University. Since 2005, she has served as a Visiting Professor at universities in the Greater China Region.

Dr. Yu has taught in Ryerson’s MBA program and supervises the Major Research Papers. She has completed 13 funded research projects and published 48 academic papers in peer reviewed international journals and conferences since 2001. She co-authored a paper that won “Best Paper Award” in Europe and was the lead-author of a visual merchandising program that received “Education Technology Award” in the U.S.

Dr. Yu was a Consumer Scientist at Maytag Appliances in the U.S. before entering the academic field. She has also served as a consultant for retail design and fashion companies on their visual merchandising, branding, and international expansion strategies.

Sean Sedlezky is the Manager of Program Design at the Ted Rogers School of Retail Management and has over 20+ years of experience in writing, pitching, developing, facilitating and managing e-Learning programs, live events, corporate training workshops, undergraduate curriculum reviews, e-commerce & website design, social media and marketing activities for the retail and higher education sectors. His thesis research focused on approaches to innovation in the Canadian Retail industry.
