Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, undergraduate, graduate and law students need to use a physical (plastic) OneCard as identification to write quizzes, tests, exams or other forms of assessment at TMU. Students from The Chang School are not required to have OneCards and may display government-issued identification as outlined on the OneCard website. Review more information about identification for exams.

We also recommend you retain your physical OneCard in a secure location as a backup form of ID, should you lose your mobile device.

Most students, except Chang School students, will need your physical OneCard before your first assessment listed on your course outlines. We recommend you pick up your card during the first two weeks of the semester.

If you get a new mobile device you must contact the OneCard office to transfer everything from your old device to your new device. There is no fee for this and can be done in person POD 48, by email onecard@torontomu.ca (Please include your TMU student number in your email).

A limited number of physical OneCards will be available to students without cell phones/digital wallet access, with accessibility requirements, or for students who cannot provision Digital OneCard on their device due to regional restrictions. You can request a physical OneCard by contacting the OneCard office.

Account balances are currently only displayed on Apple devices. If your account balances are $0, they will not display until funds are added and your device reaches a positive balance. If you have available funds that are not displaying, please contact the OneCard Office at onecard@torontomu.ca. Please include your TMU student number when you contact the office.

A negative balance can occur if you make a transaction when a retail device is offline. When the device comes back online and the transaction is posted, you will see a negative balance if there are not enough funds in your account to cover the transaction.

If you used the wrong card in error when you would have liked to use your OneCard, please return to the location of the sale and ask for a credit card refund. Then process the transaction against your Digital OneCard.

As with your physical OneCard, your Digital OneCard will become inactive four months after you leave TMU. Additionally, students have two years to claim any of the funds still in the account. If you transfer to another participating program at Toronto Metropolitan University, your mobile credential will stay active and update accordingly.

Visit the dormant accounts page for more information.

If you need any help setting up your Digital OneCard, please visit the OneCard Office or email onecard@torontomu.ca. Please include your TMU student number when you contact the office.
