Lyric

    The term was originally used for songs set to the music of the lyre. Later, it was used to refer to any poem intended to be sung. More recently, lyric has been used for any short poem that presents a single speaker (not necessarily the poet) who expresses strong personal feelings or reveals a state of mind involving thought and feeling.
