About

The Nursing Central Placement Office (CPO) coordinates, communicates and collaborates with a variety of health care agencies across the sector to secure nursing practice placements for all students in the Collaborative Nursing Degree Program, Post-Diploma Degree Completion Program in Nursing, Master of Nursing Program and Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program at Toronto Metropolitan University.

The CPO establishes relationships and negotiates affiliation agreements with health care partners, including agencies and hospitals, throughout Ontario and beyond. Affiliation agreements are legally-binding agreements that ensure the safety and security of students, universities and placement agencies. These agreements must be in place prior to securing placements.

The CPO collaborates closely with professors in the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing to ensure that placement opportunities align with course and program outcomes. The CPO secures placements that provide experiences to allow students to meet the entry-to-practice competencies as a generalist nurse.

Nursing Practice Placements

Nursing practice placement experiences begin in the first year of the program and expose students to a broad range of nursing practice settings and various nursing roles. Nursing practice placement experiences occur primarily in community, hospital and long-term care settings within the Greater Toronto Area.

Nursing practice is an integral part of undergraduate and graduate programs in the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing.
