Maher M. El-Masri
Maher El-Masri is an academic nurse leader and a Fulbright Scholar who completed his Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSc.N) at a post-diploma program from Al-Quds University, and his masters (1998) and PhD (2003) degrees in nursing from the University of Maryland Baltimore. Prior to joining the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing at Toronto Metropolitan University, Dr. El-Masri served as a professor at the College of Nursing, Wayne State University (2019 -2020) and at the Faculty of Nursing, University of Windsor (2002-2019). During his 17-year tenure at the University of Windsor, Dr. El-Masri assumed various research leadership roles for 13 years. In recognition of his expertise in research methods and biostatistics, Dr. El-Masri has served as a visiting scholar and/or adjunct professor at several nursing and allied health programs in Canada and the United States. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Nursing Research (CJNR) since 2015.
Dr. El-Masri’s research program focuses on (a) the study of self-management of life-style related chronic diseases in urban settings (e.g., prediabetes, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome) and on (b) Infection Control. He is also known for his collaboration with nursing and interdisciplinary researchers, where he is often sought for his expertise in research methodology and data analysis. While widely known for his research excellence, Dr. El-Masri is a passionate nursing educator and mentor. In recognition of his many professional and academic contributions to nursing, he was the recipient of several prestigious awards that include his induction as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (2019) and his receipt of the Leadership in Nursing Research award from the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (2012).
Dr. El-Masri’s teaching experience is primarily focused on quantitative research methods, clinical epidemiology, and biostatistics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He also taught scientific writing and dissertation seminars to PhD students
