Donette Chin-Loy Chang
Donette Chin-Loy Chang is a communications leader, philanthropist, volunteer and mentor. She is a member of the BlackNorth Initiative board, the Caribbean Canada Institute board and serves on the Onyx Initiative Advisory board and the National Coalition of Canadians Against Asian Racism Committee. Throughout her work, Donette has sought to bring fairness, clarity, and equity to marginalized communities through listening and giving thoughtful attention to them. She hopes to bring this same consideration to the University Renaming Advisory Committee. While the university has achieved many great things, Donette recognizes the hurt, trauma, and pain that the university’s namesake has caused, and continues to cause, to Indigenous peoples. She feels strongly that this process is necessary and important and that renaming is the right thing to do.
