TMU’s new Master of Cybersecurity program will teach both recent graduates and seasoned professionals the skills needed to lead in cybersecurity.

In a world where cyber threats keep growing, TMU is launching a new Master of Cybersecurity program to train professionals for this high-demand field.

The numbers tell the story: The cybersecurity workforce gap has reached a staggering 4.8 million professionals worldwide. TMU's one-year program aims to help fill this gap by teaching both technical skills and strategic abilities.

"Cybersecurity is no longer an option for organizations—it’s a necessity," said Ali Miri, inaugural program director. "The need for highly skilled leaders who can protect systems, data and infrastructure has never been greater."

The one-year, full-time program welcomes recent graduates and mid-career professionals looking to advance their careers. It's designed for both experienced cybersecurity professionals and those from related fields like IT, business management and engineering.

“This program supports TMU's mission to develop knowledge that meets society's needs,” said Carl Kumaradas, vice-provost and dean of graduate and postdoctoral studies. “After years of thoughtful planning, it is exciting to see this program added to our offerings.”

Highlights of TMU’s program include:

  • Industry connections – In collaboration with Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst (external link) , the program will provide networking opportunities, mentorship and hands-on experiential training through the Catalyst Cyber Range.
  • Interdisciplinary curriculum – The program will teach technical expertise in cyber defense and network security as well as leadership skills in risk management, governance and strategic decision-making.
  • Practical experience – Students gain hands-on experience through advanced cybersecurity simulations, case studies and industry partnerships, so they graduate career-ready.

Applications are now open for fall 2025. For more information about the Master of Cybersecurity and how to apply, visit the program website.
