TMU continues to gain global recognition for academic excellence and industry impact in the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) continues to gain global recognition for its academic excellence, research strength and industry impact, as reflected in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject (external link) .

This year’s rankings highlight TMU’s strengths in key disciplines, including a strong debut for law and a top-tier placement in Business and Economics.

Despite graduating its first cohort of students less than two years ago, TMU’s Lincoln Alexander School of Law (LASL) has already made an impact on the world stage.

The LASL ranked among the top 250 law schools globally—a significant achievement for such a young program. TMU also placed third in Canada for Research Quality in Law, underscoring the strength of its faculty’s contributions to legal scholarship.

Shaping future generations

This early success signals a promising future for the law school, reinforcing its role in shaping the next generation of legal professionals and scholars. The school’s focus on interdisciplinary research, community engagement and access to justice has contributed to its growing reputation in the field.

This commitment to excellence and real-world impact extends beyond Law and into Business and Economics, where TMU continues to make strides.

TMU ranked among the top 10 in Canada in the Industry category for Business and Economics. This metric measures income from industry partnerships and patents, reflecting the faculty’s deep ties to industry innovation and real-world business applications.

The Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM)’s emphasis on experiential learning, corporate collaborations and entrepreneurship has created an environment where students gain hands-on experience that directly translates to career success.

This recognition reinforces the university’s commitment to preparing students with the skills and connections needed to excel in an evolving global economy.

TMU’s focus on industry connections helped the university place among the top 10 in Canada for graduate employability in THE's Global University Employability Ranking 2025 (external link) .

University on the rise

Beyond these subject-specific achievements, TMU performed well across a variety of disciplines, including Computer Science and Psychology, reinforcing its reputation as a globally respected institution.

The university’s continued presence in the Times Higher Education rankings speaks to its breadth of academic programming and research excellence. Faculty and students across TMU are contributing to meaningful advancements in fields such as technology, health sciences, and social innovation, further elevating the university’s status on the international stage.

TMU’s ongoing rankings success

These latest results build on TMU’s broader recognition in global rankings. TMU continues to make progress in advancing the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as recognized by 2024’s THE Impact Rankings (external link) . TMU was ranked among the top 15 per cent of more than 2,100 universities evaluated worldwide, demonstrating its global impact on sustainable development and efforts to drive positive social, economic and environmental change.

TMU was also recently recognized for subject-specific excellence by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), which placed TMU among the top 250 universities in the world for Architecture/Built Environment, Art and Design, and Communication and Media Studies.
