Sharanjeet Kaur appointed chief administrative officer of TMU School of Medicine
Sharanjeet Kaur has been appointed chief administrative officer (CAO) for the TMU School of Medicine, effective August 1, 2024.
An experienced public sector leader, Kaur has been integral to moving the school towards its 2025 opening since she joined as executive director in May 2022. She has provided outstanding leadership of non-clinical, operational and administration management staff at the school, and has helped to grow the team significantly during her tenure. Kaur has also been instrumental in advancing critical initiatives such as building construction, program accreditation, community engagement, strategic and financial planning and much more.
The role of chief administrative officer
As CAO, Kaur will continue to direct daily administrative operations, oversee resource allocation and ensure that operations and non-clinical staff are aligned with the School of Medicine’s mission and vision. In addition, she will lead strategic initiatives and special projects as assigned by the provost and vice-president, academic, including the launch of the School of Medicine’s integrated health centres (IHCs). One of the school’s goals is to increase health-care capacity in Brampton and its surrounding communities; IHCs will provide high-quality care to local residents while also providing an ideal training environment for the next generation of innovative, inclusive physicians.
Committed to building community
A proud Bramptonian and community advocate, Kaur’s volunteer work is focused on human rights advocacy, cultural safety and humility training, international student supports and youth leadership and mentorship programs. She is also the senior vice-president of the World Sikh Organization of Canada. The City of Brampton recently recognized Kaur’s contributions with the 2023 Citizen of the Year Award, which honours local residents who build communities and show what can be achieved with passion and determination.
