Girl Guides take over TMU

This past Family Day long weekend, nearly 80 Girl Guides aged 5-11 descended onto the TMU campus for “Badge Day”.
Badge Day is an annual event where universities across the country invite young girls to learn about engineering from students while getting hands-on experience in designing and building their very own crafts. TMU participates in Badge Day along with other institutions in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and PEI. At the end of the event, each Girl Guide receives an engineering badge and goes home with the knowledge that one day, they could choose to study engineering, too.

The intention behind Badge Day is to encourage young girls to consider engineering as a possible career. Sounds like it's working based on one Girl Guide’s idea: “If I could invent anything with engineering, I’d design a memory machine!” Photo credit: Colleen Stock.
