Provide feedback on two draft administrative policies about social media and digital content
In August 2021, the Standing Strong Task Force’s (SSTF) final report included 22 recommendations that are guiding the University through changes across campus. In addition to the task force’s specific policy development recommendation, additional new policies are necessary to support the success of these recommendations. Community members are invited to review and (google form) provide feedback (external link) on a social media policy and digital content policy until December 23, 2023.
Social media policy
The university has had social media guidelines since 2016. Yet, as the number of social platforms have expanded and social media usage has proliferated, University Relations recognized the need to formalize and clarify policies and procedures regarding the use of TMU-branded social media accounts. The purpose of this policy is to support effective digital communications by the university by both identifying what the university considers to be branded social media accounts and establishing standards and expectations for the use of those accounts.
Key points
The social media policy will:
- Guide account managers and administrators in their development of social media content
- Define what constitutes a university branded account
- Protect and uphold the image and reputation of the university

Digital content policy
Following the university’s name change in April 2022, University Relations recognized the need for greater brand consistency and adherence to digital best practices. A digital content policy has been drafted to help in the optimization of TMU’s digital properties and to ensure the protection of the image and reputation of the university. This policy will guide the creation and use of university-wide digital best practices and establish governance to support web publishers across the university.
Key points
The digital content policy will:
- Guide all staff, students, and faculty of the university in their development of digital content
- Protect and uphold the image and reputation of the university
- Ensure that digital best practices are adhered to across the university’s website
