Glenn Craney departing TMU

Chief Strategy Officer Glenn Craney is leaving TMU after five years on the leadership to pursue a new role.
After five years as an integral member of Toronto Metropolitan University’s leadership team, Chief Strategy Officer Glenn Craney will be leaving the university to take on a new role at Global University Systems Canada.
Glenn joined TMU as deputy provost and vice-provost, University Planning Office in 2018, having come from the Ontario government where he was the assistant deputy minister, postsecondary education at the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development.
As deputy provost and vice-provost, University Planning Office, Glenn developed, communicated and executed complex strategic plans to advance university priorities. This included leading the development and implementation of activities related to the university's academic plan, enrolment planning, and academic budget planning as well as overseeing policy research, survey research, data analysis, performance measurement, and institutional research projects.
“Glenn’s contributions and leadership have been essential to the university’s growth over the last number of years,” said President and Vice-Chancellor Mohamed Lachemi. “He was instrumental in the development of our medical school, in tying together the university’s strategic plans, stewarding the university’s annual budget process during a particularly challenging fiscal environment, and overseeing significant growth of our international portfolio. We will miss his broad understanding of the challenges faced by the university sector, and his vision for creating change and advancing the institution’s priorities.”
In 2022, Glenn was appointed TMU’s inaugural chief strategy officer. In this role, he oversaw the development and implementation of the university’s integrated strategic planning framework that links together actions, strategies and priorities across all units at TMU. As an executive leader, he has played a key role in directing long-range strategic initiatives that have significant importance to the university and has assisted with the development of the university’s budget strategy to align with the Strategic Vision and all supporting plans.
“I am so proud to have been a part of TMU’s transformation in my five years here,” said Glenn. “The growth in so many pivotal areas, including a forthcoming medical school in Brampton, truly demonstrates what a leader TMU is and continues to be in the post secondary sector. I look forward to witnessing the university’s continued success.”
The university will be undertaking a review of the work of the Office of the Chief Strategy Officer, more information on this process will be available in the coming weeks.
