Jennifer MacInnis appointed Interim General Counsel
Jennifer MacInnis will serve as interim general counsel, secretary of the Board of Governors, and university privacy officer.
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Jennifer MacInnis as Toronto Metropolitan University’s interim general counsel, secretary of the Board of Governors, and university privacy officer; her new role will begin on May 19th, 2023.
A member of the TMU community for 13 years, Jennifer has most recently served as associate general counsel and assistant Board secretary in the Office of the General Counsel and Board Secretariat.
Jennifer is an accomplished corporate commercial lawyer with over 19 years working in the post-secondary and hospital sectors, with broad experience in contract drafting and negotiation, intellectual property, governance, privacy and policy development. She has recently served as the chair of the Counsel of Ontario Universities Secretaries group, and currently serves as a vice-president of the Canadian Association of University Solicitors.
As a leader and team builder, Jennifer focuses on creating cohesive, high performing, engaged teams with shared goals and common purpose. As a colleague, she values collaboration, open and constructive communication, and diversity of thought. Jennifer was recognized by the university for her leadership with the Linda Grayson Administrative Leadership Award in 2020 and was a member of the Lifeline Syria Challenge Team which was honoured with an Julia Hanigsberg Make Your Mark Award in 2017.
During her time at TMU, Jennifer has held a variety of leadership roles including senior director of Applied Research and Commercialization, with the Office of the Vice President, Research and Innovation. In that role, she served as a research liaison for the university, facilitating collaborative relationships with industrial, not-for-profit and government partners to undertake research with university faculty and providing commercialization advice, support and oversight.
I would like to thank Jennifer for her continued dedication to TMU and for her leadership in her new role providing the university with legal and governance advice; please join me in congratulating her on this new interim role.
I would also like to thank Julia Shin Doi for her significant contributions to the growth and development of the university. We wish her all the best in her role as a judge of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Toronto.
