Ryerson is exploring options to virtually celebrate our fall graduates and more information on this will be shared with the community soon.

In light of the government protocols and public health concerns regarding large public gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ryerson University has made the difficult decision to postpone all fall 2020 convocation ceremonies until 2021, or until it is permitted to safely hold large public gatherings again.

For those graduating this fall, we know how disappointing this news is. Attending convocation is a rite of passage for graduates, and a time of celebration for their families, friends, professors and instructors. While we are deeply disappointed we cannot recognize you and your achievements with an in-person ceremony at this time, ensuring the continued health and safety of our community remains our primary concern.

Although fall ceremonies have been postponed, students who have applied to graduate, and who have completed their program requirements successfully, will still graduate and be awarded their degree or certificate. Ryerson is exploring options to virtually celebrate our fall graduates and more information on this will be shared with the community soon.

This news may also come as a disappointment for those who graduated in June 2020, especially those of you who were looking forward to updated plans regarding in-person ceremonies.

I want to assure all fall and spring 2020 graduates that they will have the opportunity to participate in a future ceremony and cross the convocation stage. We will celebrate your convocation with our community when it is safe to do so again.

On behalf of the university, we extend our sincere congratulations to those who are about to graduate in fall 2020 and those who graduated in spring 2020. We are so proud of you and all that you have achieved during your time at Ryerson.

To stay up to date on new developments, I encourage you to visit the Graduation and Convocation section of Ryerson’s central COVID-19 website.
