Ryerson to celebrate two milestone anniversaries

In 1948, the Ryerson Institute of Technology was founded. In 1993, Ryerson was granted full university status by the Ontario government, opening the door for graduate programs and funded research. Over the next few months, both of these anniversaries—the 70th and the 25th—will be celebrated with a series of events highlighting Ryerson’s rich past and its innovative future.
“Whether you are a member of the class of 1950 or the class of 2018, you have shaped the Ryerson we know today,” said President Mohamed Lachemi. “The anniversaries we mark this year are a celebration of your decision to attend, work, teach and conduct research at Ryerson. All the members of the Ryerson community – students, staff, faculty, alumni, and donors – have helped bring our university to the remarkable standing it enjoys today.”
Festivities in honour of the double anniversary will welcome Ryerson community members from all generations. Some events on campus planned to reflect on the memories of the past 70 years include:
- June 1 at 12 to 2 p.m. Ryerson will host a free Gould Street party for students, faculty, staff and alumni and friends.
- June 1 at 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. Ryerson alumni who are celebrating their special anniversary (25, 40, 50, 55, 60 and 65) are invited for a special reception.
- June 1 at 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ryerson Archives hosts an open house to honour the history of the university.
- June 1 - October 31, 2018. Ryerson 7025 is an exhibit featuring photographs and items from the collections of the Ryerson University Archives highlighting the university's rich past. View the exhibit in the Archives and Special Collections reading room and exhibit case in LIB404.
