Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday, an international day of giving and volunteering which follows as a counterpoint to the mass consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Giving Tuesday was created as an opportunity to strengthen communities. This year, the Ryerson community is coming together on Giving Tuesday to raise funds for the RSU’s Good Food Centre, an on-campus food bank. The Good Food Centre (external link)  receives more than 3,000 visits a year from Ryerson students.

You may have seen or heard stories on CBC recently about food insecurity for students (external link)  on Canadian campuses, noting that nearly two-in-five post-secondary students in Canada experience some degree of food insecurity. This issue is so pressing that Ryerson students recently voted to fund (external link)  the Good Food Centre themselves, starting September 2018. On Giving Tuesday, the plan is to help get them through the rest of this school year.

This Giving Tuesday, Ryerson will match every gift made to the Good Food Centre dollar-for-dollar (to a maximum of $10,000). Financial support like this is particularly important because the Good Food Centre has the buying power to make every dollar go further. So if you can, please make a gift to provide nutritious food to students in need – no need to wait until tomorrow.
