In memoriam
Alan Slobodsky, urban and regional planning ’87, passed away July 18 from pancreatic cancer. He was 54. Slobodsky was the chief of staff to former mayor Mel Lastman and is remembered as a “bridge-builder (external link, opens in new window) .”
Rheta Rosen passed away on Aug. 22. She was professor emerita of nutrition and the former director of the Learning and Teaching Office. She was also part of the 1993 committee that established the Interpersonal Skills Teaching Centre and was director for 10 years. Rosen was a longtime member of the Life Institute.
Raymond Sherk, former faculty in finance and professor emeritus, passed away Dec. 2 at 94. Sherk lived an adventurous life, joining the Canadian Army in 1939 and was a prisoner of war in Italy for one year before escaping and making the long journey to safety in England. Amongst his experiences (external link, opens in new window) , Sherk enjoyed high tea with the Queen of England, and a Heineken with Prince Bernard of the Netherlands in 1969.
