Population Association of America (PAA) Conference

The Population Association of America (PAA) held its meeting in Columbus, Ohio from April 17th to 19th, 2024. Associate Professor Daniela Ghio presented the MEMO project output during a poster session. Her presentation was entitled "The Role of Environmental and Climate Factors on Migration in Ghana, 1985-2014" and detailed the quantitative analysis results for the West African Regional System with a focus on Ghana. It examined the role of environmental conditions (precipitation, consecutive wet days, consecutive dry days, maximum temperature, and minimum temperature), conflict fatalities, and small-scale artisanal gold mining activities in influencing migration flows. The analysis was based on various geospatial methods, including geographic weighted regression, multi-scale geographic weighted regression, and geographically weighted regression trees.
