TMU hosts move-in day and attempts new world record to kickstart orientation week
TORONTO, August 23, 2023 – Starting Sunday, August 27, Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) will inaugurate the academic year with an exciting orientation week. The university is bringing back its signature events enjoyed by new and returning students each year, for an unforgettable start to their university journeys.
Residence move-in day is the first marquee event before the week’s festivities begin. This year, 1,051 students will be living across TMU’s three residence buildings.
WHAT: Exuberant students will arrive at TMU with their loved ones and move-in to their new homes one week before classes commence.
WHEN: Sunday, August 27. Media should attend during the peak hours of 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
WHERE: Pitman Hall (160 Mutual St.)
The annual World Record attempt will take place during the orientation kickoff event that also features live performances and the traditional class photo.
WHAT: TMU’s 17th annual world record attempt will challenge incoming students to break the current record for the loudest crowd scream, which is 127.2 decibels.
WHEN: Monday, August 28, 12:45 to 1:15 p.m.
WHERE: Kerr Hall Quad, 50 Gould St.
Interviews with an event organizer can be arranged on site during either of the activities. Event footage will be available to share with the media upon request.
