Art has always been Safiya's sanctuary, her chosen medium for self-expression since childhood. However, it was during high school that she stumbled upon the captivating realm of communication technology, immersing herself in courses focused on digital art and design.
Safiya's journey took exciting turns as she actively pursued opportunities to apply her skills in real-world settings. Interning in both the fast-paced fashion and print industries provided invaluable hands-on experience, enriching her portfolio and expanding her design expertise. Her unwavering commitment to storytelling through design and creating impactful work that resonates, her perspective evolved.
Upon graduating from Durham College, Safiya embarked on an exhilarating journey as a freelance designer specializing in branding. Safiya is a visionary storyteller, poised to redefine the boundaries of graphic design with her innovative approach and boundless passion make a genuine difference in the design industry, leaving a lasting imprint with every project she undertakes.
Why Digital Media?
As I’ve stepped foot into the design industry, I’ve recognized technology has become a huge factor in our everyday lives and we’re constantly interacting with a multitude of mediums. This has many benefits but also disadvantages. I believe the digital world has expanded tremendously and it is important to continue to envision, evoke emotion, and bring ideas to life with new techniques. In today’s world, technology and reality have intersected where companies are developing a canvas to paint captivating narratives and forging lasting impressions.
The reason I gravitated toward digital media is to gain an understanding and develop skills in the relationship between immersive technologies and transmedia, specifically to integrate it in the marketing and advertising industry. I stumbled upon the intriguing crossroads where the three distinct but interconnected fields of business, creative, and technical, come together in a remarkable manner. I believe that MDM’s program is the place to gain experience and enhance the needed technical skills and interpersonal skills to grow within the industry.
