Biography

Carrie Hayes is a multidisciplinary designer with 19 years of experience in fashion and marketing. She is a specialist in translating trending emotional & cultural concepts into profit-generating products and marketing materials.

Carrie is the founder of Carrie Hayes Collection, a luxury women’s clothing line that won the Toronto Fashion Incubator’s Best New Designer award in its first season.  She then launched a spinoff line called Ferhn, a moderately priced line which achieved cross-Canada distribution before being sold in 2014. Her latest project is Straight Laser, a unique design and laser cutting studio that creates marketing assets for clients like Lululemon, OLG and the National Ballet of Canada.

Publications like ELLE Canada, FLARE, FASHION, National Post, Huffington Post, Toronto Life, ET Canada and the Toronto Star have featured Carrie’s creative work. She has had the pleasure of dressing Canadian personalities like Corner Gas star Gabrielle Miller and ET Canada’s Angela Smith.

Behind her creative work, Carrie is deeply curious about materials and processes. This has drawn her into the world of manufacturing.  She has worked with offset print, digital print, cut & sew, heat mold, die cut, metal fabricating, knitting, screen print, vat dye, woodworking, laser cutting, CNC, dye sub and other manufacturers.

Carrie Hayes has worked on special projects like co-founding the Fashion Designer’s Guild, an organization created to host a 32-designer-pop-up-shop at Toronto Fashion Week. She has been commissioned by the Caymans Islands department of tourism to design a fashion collection inspired by the islands.  Carrie has also worked with varied materials for commissions by Kruger’s Cashmere and Karst Montreal, making paper haute couture from toilet tissue and stone-based paper.

In service, Carrie has sat on the board of Fashion Group International and the Art of Fashion foundation. She has served as an industry judge for Ryerson University’s fashion design program. To give back to her industry Carrie has worked in the role of subject matter expert at post-secondary institutions for the past 10 years.  She has developed curriculum and delivered courses in the areas of marketing and design at Seneca, George Brown and Centennial colleges.

Why Digital Media?

Carrie is pursuing a Masters of Digital Media to explore the digitization of consumer products and how the interactions with the things we buy and use have changed.
