- Toronto Metropolitan University, Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours, Film Studies
Specialization:
Online Content Creator
Biography:
Dustin began his career as a video editor in 2013. While most of his colleagues were learning from the great filmmakers of cinema, Dustin was studying his craft on YouTube. For most of his teenage years and much of his undergrad life, Dustin lived and breathed online video, making regular videos on a teenage vlog channel he has now hidden from the world. As an undergraduate in the Ryerson School of Image Arts Film Studies program, Dustin furthered his knowledge of film production techniques while specializing in video editing, directing and producing.
In 2015 and 2016, Dustin was selected as a Ryerson Ambassador to VidCon California, where he represented the university at the forefront of online video. It was during this time that Dustin found his passion for educational content and an urge to help foster online communities. After his attendance at VidCon in 2016, Dustin successfully pitched and funded an educational limited web series focusing on popular media literacy. In light of this, Dustin was also selected as a panel moderator for the Scripted Online Content panel as part of the educational program at Buffer Festival 2016 in Toronto.
In continuing his studies, Dustin is looking to the future of fields such as education and online community management.
Why Digital Media?
Growing up on the internet has led Dustin down an interesting path. For as long as he can remember he has been a passionate member of online communities ranging from online video to gaming and academic discussion groups. As a person with a wide range of interests, Dustin is more interested in the questions he doesn't yet know to ask than the ones he does. Digital media is a unique program in that it not only builds on the work that came before and provides a practical basis for development but encourages candidates to seek out those same questions.
