Biography:
I come from a mixed background in Nonprofit Marketing & Communications and Financial Sales & Services. I have lived, studied and worked in 4 different countries, I speak 5 different languages, and I describe myself as a people-driven and technology-oriented storyteller.
My first professional storytelling opportunity came when I was working for a non-profit organization in Bangladesh that supported some of the most marginalized and geographically vulnerable communities in the world. My task was to spend time with these communities, walk in their shoes and creatively share their stories. I worked alongside passionate individuals in the Marketing team and co-created video content, write-ups and a coffee table book that to this day is helping the charity expand its reach across the world.
My knack for storytelling then took me to Beijing where I got the opportunity to speak and perform in a Chinese language competition on national television (CCTV) along with contestants from 120 countries, further landing me an opportunity to pursue a Mandarin language education in one of the top language universities in China. My semester in Beijing was pure art! I immersed myself in the Chinese culture, learned its nuances, communicated in creative ways when my Mandarin vocabulary would fail me, and yet managed to form deep connections and lasting friendships that have become an integral part of my story!
In 2013 I moved to Toronto and found my passion in helping people through financial advice. Working for RBC branches in downtown Toronto, I connected with clients from all walks of life – students, professionals, newcomers, seniors and lots of Chinese-speaking clients (serendipity, I believe!). My 5 years at RBC have been full of adventure. I had the opportunity to go out in the community and speak to parents about their children’s education, newcomers about building credit and students about budgeting. I got to be creative and produce video content and blog posts to drive employee engagement and performance. I was also involved in RBC’s new fully digitally enabled pilot branch, being at forefront of the rapid changes currently disrupting the Canadian banking industry.
Why Digital Media?
I believe all workplaces of the future will look like an MDM classroom where teams will be comprised not of individuals with a prescribed set of skillsets but rather of unique individuals with unique backgrounds and skillsets coming together to deliver something unique to the world. These are exciting times, and I chose MDM because I wanted to dive right in!
