Biography:

What if a story could ignite something within you and inspire you to go out and make the world a better place?

These are the stories Kathryn McKenzie is on the hunt to find. This hunt and her insatiable curiosity have taken her around the world where she uncovered some of the best that humanity has to offer through stories she documented in film, art, books and public speaking. Traditional media has often focused on using a “if it bleeds it leads,” philosophy while modern media has churned out endless puff pieces about cats and lottery winners.

Kate has discovered that there is a massive appetite to feature a different kind of story, those that show individuals who have been resilient and courageous in the face of adversity. By neither ignoring the negative nor dismissing the hopeful, Kathryn believes Digital Media has the ability to showcase exemplars of innovation. As an educator and artist, Kathryn recognizes these stories have the capacity to empower the next generation to make a difference and provide the tools they need to sustain their vision.

Why Digital Media?

Kate aims to take her storytelling to the next level through Ryerson’s Masters in Digital Media program. She’s excited to explore how Digital Media can engage audiences through multiple platforms, explore interdisciplinary solutions and create innovative business strategies that ignite that passion and inspires us all to make our world better.
