Biography:
I was born and raised in Lima, Peru, where I was fortunate enough to be able to attend one of the most prestigious universities in the country. I obtained a Bachelors in Industrial Engineering and after finishing my degree was hired to work at ExxonMobil, one of the largest multinational companies in the world. Those 7 years of my life were enough for me to realize that I needed to look for different experiences where I could have a bigger vision of the world. I needed to find a greater sense of purpose for my future than just what a successful career and a great salary at that time were able to provide. So moving to Canada, embodying a new culture and a new language were the challenges that I took on as part of my journey for personal and professional growth. The best thing that I learned through this decision is that there are always ways for improvement in any living situation and that contribution, empathy, technology and entrepreneurship are the keywords for success and fulfillment in these new times.
This Master’s program will allow me to put together all of my experiences and knowledge acquired working in different areas of industry (customer service, management, planning, financial, procurement, etc) and from my experiences living and working in two completely different cultures. Thanks to my undergraduate degree and the deep knowledge of my cultural Inka roots, and combined with the experiences of living in this multi-cultural city of Toronto, I am totally passionate and a great believer of social innovation and its power to create real changes in society. I think that the world has become smaller because of technology and borders do not impede connection with people anymore. The time has come where we can dare to dream of creating a One united and powerful nation where every single human being can have access to the information and services they require to have a happy and fulfilled life.
Why Digital Media?
We don’t need to be an expert to realize how fast the world is changing now and that digital media is shaping us. I have experienced myself the big twist for the new generation and it is mandatory to play and communicate with the same tools to be part of this big change. We all have something to give and make our contribution for society, and digital media is the easiest way to do it. I am a firm believer that technology can be so useful to transform societies and help people. I have already had inspiring opportunities to work on different projects within a network of enterprising professionals and community activities in my country of origin, including with some communities of native people. Those experiences left a burning desire in me to help them to further engage in diverse ways that would benefit their communities.
