Biography
Desislava is a versatile professional with over a decade of experience in management and analytical roles in finance, IT, and the digital space. She graduated magna cum laude from the State University of New York with two Bachelor's degrees – in Computer Science and in Mathematics.
Desislava's professional career began at Nike Inc. World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, USA. In the five years at Nike, she applied her knowledge and skills to various web and application development projects, built an expertise in SAP and other data warehousing and reporting solutions, and evolved her analytical skills within the finance function. From the perspective of her global role, Desislava grew her leadership skills and cultivated a passion for digital applications.
Branching out from her corporate experience, Desislava pursued customer-facing digital projects that challenged and inspired her creativity. She helped small businesses polish their web and social media presence, as well as executed their branding, re-branding, and marketing initiatives.
In Canada, Desislava has been managing the development and marketing of a new, enterprise-level software product by Profuz Digital. In addition, she has been researching smart cities, studying the various definitions, and current global smart cities initiatives as part of her Master's degree in Digital Media at Toronto Metropolitan University in downtown Toronto.
Why Digital Media?
Digital Media has added another dimension to almost every aspect of our contemporary life. New possibilities and new risks have transformed daily realities, businesses, and governments globally, as technology has become ubiquitous. I am interested in seeing difficult digital problems solved by innovative teams, and Big Data is at the forefront at the moment. With an academic foundation in quantitative disciplines, experience in data analytics, and a curiosity for the future of tech, I see a higher degree in Digital Media as a natural career progression.
