Open Positions

We currently have openings for enthusiastic new members to join our group. Prospective students who have strong backgrounds in mechanical, chemical, or biomedical enginering, or physics, are all welcome to apply.

Our group is committed to nurturing a welcoming culture that values Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). Consistent with the Tri-Agency Statement on EDI (external link, opens in new window) , and the Dimensions Pilot Program at Toronto Metropolitan University, we foster a safe and comfortable environment that encourages everyone to freely to speak their minds and pursue their research interests. We highly encourage students from historically underrepresented groups in engineering and science to apply for our positions.

We are especially looking for highly motivated PhD and MASc students, who are interested in experimental microfluidics, to begin their research in the upcoming Fall 2024 or Winter 2025 terms.

PhD and MASc students

All of LoFFI's MASc and PhD students are fully funded via a combination of entrance scholarships and research grants. Teaching and grading assistantships are also available as additional support.

Prospective students should email their CV and transcripts in pdf format to Dr. Tsai at scott.tsai@torontomu.ca. Students should also apply for admissions through Toronto Metropolitan University's Yeates School of Graduate Studies (opens in new window) . Students can apply to either the biomedical engineering (opens in new window)  or mechanical engineering (opens in new window)  graduate programs.

Canadian citizens and permanent residents seeking external funding are encouraged to contact Dr. Tsai to discuss application proposals for the NSERC Postgraduate (external link, opens in new window)  and Ontario Graduate (opens in new window)  scholarship programs.

Undergraduate students

We also welcome undergraduate students to email Dr. Tsai to discuss possible undergraduate research projects at the LoFFI. Specifically, Toronto Metropolitan University's undergraduates seeking summer research experience should contact Dr. Tsai and apply for NSERC USRA (external link, opens in new window)  and RA (opens in new window)  awards.
